A Midsummer Night’s Plug

Everyone—who doesn’t hate Shakespeare outright—has a favourite Shakespeare play. Mine varies, but I must confess an enduring fondness for A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

In my last year of high school, our Drama Guild put it on, and I not only went all three nights, but somehow wormed my way in to the dress rehearsal as well. During intermission, I found myself drawing flowcharts for some of the other attendees who weren’t getting the whole love parallelogram idea. My future ex-brother-in-law played Bottom.

In any case, this summer Ottawa (and the surrounding region) is going to be treated to A Company of Fools‘ rendition of this classic comedy in parks across the area. I recommend you go; anything directed by DJ Al Connors is bound to be grand. The cast includes the inimitable David Whiteley, fresh from his engagement drinking Kool-Aid in The Beer Tent: Reflux at the Ottawa Fringe Festival.

If I can get together $10 to stick in the hat, I’ll be out there, for sure.
